Unfortunately, it had just rained so it was very misty out there. We did not have many experiences (nowhere near the last time). We did, however, hear some noises off in the woods and had the strange breeze once again as we were walking in and out of the pass (the wind was strong only when walking out). There were times when we were standing quietly in a group by the unknown grave and I heard someone “walking around us” on the pass, especially around Andrew. I thought it was him just moving his feet but everyone was still when I turned around. I am awaiting Andrew’s sound recordings to hear more about this.

A very strange but real experience was that we noticed a light moving around by the lake off the pass. I should mention that this area of land by the lake is about 3/4 mile inside of The Pass. We walked down to where we saw the light and yelled out for someone to reply. We couldn’t see nor hear anybody so we kept walking in. Upon getting to the small area of land on the lake we saw a man walking around and he finally shined his flash light. It was odd because it was a very old man that was so afraid of us (he didn’t want to be approached, kept walking away from us) and he was fishing. We apologized and asked him if any weird things happen to him out at The Pass and he mentioned he only heard about the hospital across the street, so we said alright and have a good night and walked back toward the pass. While leaving we realized he was following us out. He eventually caught up and I believe we asked him if he caught any fish and he replied no walked pass us into The Pass alone in the dark (without his flashlight).

We decided to go back out to the parking lot and take a short break. Upon re-entering Jennifer was extremely scared (I’ve never seen her like that). She didn’t want to enter and felt an aggressive presence directly in front of us. At one point she saw a black figure walking toward us. I’ve only seen her this way when she lost her keys last week but she did go in at that time, she wouldn’t even go in any further than 10 feet without walking back out last night.

Instead we did not enter The Pass but walked around woods surrounding it and kept our ears and eyes opened. What was odd is that the strong breeze was “following us”. It was only strong around us the entire night.

Once again (like the last trip) I heard a lot of “banging” noises coming from the old civil war hospital across the street. And once again all their lights were off. We heard these more frequently upon entering The Pass along with a really loud BANG coming from the pourch of the house when we were sitting quietly in the parking lot. Once again, no one was there.

Althought we did not experience as much first hand as we did last time we are still convinced something paranormal exists out these woods. With the faint noises of horses roaming the woods, men walking through leaves, and caravan wheels squeeking this is definitely a creepy place.

For now I think we have retired from The Pass. We will return again but there is so much out there we are eager to explore. Next week we will traveling out to a small town in Georgia to check out an old church believed to be grounds where satantic rituals were (and possibly still are) performed. For now, I await Andrew’s analysis of the sound clips from last nights trip and hope we caught something paranormal.

This entry is part 3 of 6 in the series Allatoona battlefield Pass

I sent an e-mail out to a local group to see what they knew/experienced out at the pass, I got a reply from one of their members who is also a local historian:

Hi, I saw your site and notice you guys have investigated “The Pass”. I also was aware that similar stuff has happened to you guys: Gun Powder, Burning Flesh, Pictures of Orbs near grave. What is odd is that last weekend we went in with 3 people and the two girls I was with saw a horse in the pass with a few soldiers standing and watching us. We even dropped my friends cell phone out there last week and did not realize it until we left. Upon returning there was a piece of cloth lying on the wall where we were sitting in the parking lot during our break, it was right next to where we were sitting and WAS NOT THERE BEFORE. We discovered it was a child’s very old shirt but it wasn’t from that time period. However, it wasn’t American and smelt like gun powder + misty old perfume. When we went in to retrieve the phone something on the pass made a loud noise (like a log snapping in half) and then came running towards us. We also had a moment after seeing the “horse” where we shined a light into the woods near the spot it was seen (we heard what sounded like a man walking through leaves/branches) and something big ran off into the woods in about 0.2 seconds without hesitation. What is odd is that the sound was gone in about 2 seconds, we could not hear something running off in the distance.

My question…

In any of your pictures (especially near the grave), did any of you guys notice what appeared to be a faint/misty horse? I got several pictures that look like there is a horse, only one of them is very clear and detailed (you could see muzzle, straps on body, and rearing up), however, it is a misty, breath/smoke like image so we are unsure if it really is our breath or not.

Just thought I would see if you also noticed any type of horse out there. It’s hard to find people that have been out in this area.

Thanks,
Ryan

Wow, what a cool inquiry!

Ryan, the short answer to your question is no. No one I’ve talked to has ever seen a horse, either by eye or by photo. In my hundreds of trips to The Pass, I’ve also never seen a live one – there just aren’t any stables nearby. But at the time of the battle there was a Union stable on the site and the numerous farms that, at the time, were local likely had horses as well that were probably ‘requisitioned’ by the troops for use in the war effort.

Having said that, I’ll say this… although I’ve never SEEN a horse, I’ve smelled them and heard them and even sensed them on numerous occasions, and others have as well. And if you’ve ever spent much time around horses, you’ll know that the smell of a wet horse is a smell that absolutely cannot be mistaken for anything else. Being watched by the spirits of soldiers is a common occurrence at The Pass, as are the scent of old black powder (another unmistakable odor) and the scent of kerosene.

Sounds like y’all had quite an adventure! We’d love to see your pictures.

B.
